We love skiing SW Montana’s greater Yellowstone region. This community project has been a joy to work on and collaborate with our team of designers, map makers, animators interviewees and more. It is amazing what our small remote virtual studio is capable of producing in these crazy times.
I have been wanting to do a project like this for a long time.
It took getting Covid 19 to be the catalyst to make it happen (watch background Kickstarter video). https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/thelastbestski/the-last-best-ski-sw-montana-illustrated-guide-book/description
This book will be just as comfortable on your coffee-table fireside as it is in your backpack far out in the snowy wilderness.
While it isn’t the be-all end all book for skiing in MT (too much for a single volume to hold) it is a portal to get you started with experts to take you further like Ben Werner Author of Backcountry Skiing Bozeman and Big Sky. You can learn where to dig in and go farther. The one of a kind custom built GPS map is a result of our years of research online and in the filed. This gives an amazing lay-of-the-land to point you where other adventures can be had.
The Last Best SKI book project has been a real and virtual adventure!
* Four Ski seasons of research out in the snow and online
* Hundreds of miles of trails skied (and GPS mapped)
* Over 100 custom illustrations and animations
* Over a dozen computer-drawn maps
* 20+ interviews with local expert ski instructors, program directors, Avalanche experts and snow scientists
* GPS Markers for 15 MT down hill ski areas and 16 Nordic Centers
* 35 GPS tracks for ungroomed backcountry trails in SW Montana and Yellowstone
* 34 pages of written copy
* 80+ pages of printed content
The ski community here in SW Montana is made of many different groups with far-reaching impacts. They all are passionate about skiing and the incredible power of working together. From hearing from Cliff Montange about how the Bridger Ski Foundation started to Christine Baker talk about the Montana Ski Area association helping each other make new policies and practices to deal with the pandemic while making skiing safer and more fun.
Skiing makes us stronger, more focused, happier not just as individuals but entire communities.
That is why we are building this book experience.
We have taken the first steps but need your help to get the word out.
We are nearing the last week of our first-ever Kickstarter campaign.
It is all or nothing.
We either reach the goal and produce the book to get to you (and all other backers) by Christmas or we don’t.
Please back the project today and let friends know about this innovative book experience.
Check out the new Orange level of backing. This category gets you bulk discounts and essentially 10 free Discover Montana Treasures books in addition to a kit of other great gifts. Only available on Kickstarter before Christmas!
Thank you for your support.
