Since many projects with dancers from different backgrounds, I have focused on the search for identity in the dancer. Show creations are a pretext to develop a choreographic signature specific to OKUS Lab and the dancer, or how to create a choreographic mutation. As a biochemist and genetic researcher, I have been able to transpose these modes of scientific and “molecular” reflection to the art of dance… or how to think of dance as a geneticist rather than a choreographer. I have been able to guide dancers from different backgrounds, but more recently I have focused on two internationally renowned breakdance dancers. My work has been to use certain geometric and spatial constraints, but also to inject elements specific to my personal signature such as “calligraphic” movements performed with my arms, as well as work on muscle contractions and speed management (which can be found in “Popping”). I was also able to organize almost molecularly the sequences of movements. From their specific vocabulary to breakdancing, I have developed a method to open up possibilities and make them dancers and creators of singular movements.
THE GOAL IS TO FIND THE DANCER’S DEEP IDENTITY, HIS OBSESSIONS, TO CREATE A CHOREOGRAPHIC MUTANT IN FULL POSSESSION OF HIS POWERS.
Through my company “Okus Lab”, I’m focused on the research of the dancer’s identity. As a choreographer, I helps famous Hip Hop and contemporary dancers to develop their own choreographic signature.
