Pastor Chris continues our Good to Great series with part 2. Last week in Part 1 he shared the beginning steps. In how we grab hold of this great life that God has for each one of us. It starts with trust and belief in Jesus Christ. Trusting that God will due what He has promised. Jesus during the last moments with the Disciples in the Upper Room told them they were going to do « greater » things. Greater that Jesus had done. That same promise of greater things is true for us even to this day!
So where do you being to walk in this greater life? Ephesians 5:13 outlines this perfectly for us. « It is absolutely clear that God has called you to a free life. Just make sure that you don’t use this freedom as an excuse to do whatever you want to do and destroy your freedom. Rather, use your freedom to serve one another in love; that’s how freedom grows. »
Paul writing to the church in Galatia is saying, “Hey, when it comes to life, and how God has created you, this isn’t a stuffy life. One with all of these rules and barriers to liberty, but God desires to us to live a life that is free within the fence of salvation.” Just don’t use this liberty of salvation to do whatever you want. « Well, God is just going to forgive me, I can live however I want. » Paul says when we do this, we destroy our freedom.
Rather, Paul is saying so instead of seeing the cross as a get out of jail or get out of hell free card, use it instead how Jesus wanted us to live. Use it to serve one another in love. And when we do that, our love through which we serve is deepened, multiplying itself and growing. Practically this broken down is played out in three parts. Love. Serve. Grow.
